FINAL PAPER
Step 1: Interview
Your interview with a stakeholder in the education system will be brief (10-20 minutes) and concerns the interviewees knowledge, experience, and opinion on the purpose of education in our democracy.
Step 2: Final Reflection Paper
The first 1-2 pages of this 6-8 page paper will describe the context of your interview. Alternatively, you can weave your interview into your paper at a later point.
The remainder of the paper is reflective and should address the questions below. All questions should be included, although not necessarily in this order.
What do you believe is the purpose of education, and who decides (and ought to decide) that purpose in a democratic system? How has your understanding of the purpose of education changed throughout the quarter?
How does your interview inform (or not inform) your belief in this purpose? (This can include changes to the system that you think are necessary/beneficial).
What historical narrative we have studied in this course informs your understanding of our current condition of education? Clearly connect to one historical time/moment we studied.
What theoretical approach we studied in class can support your claim about teh purpose of education in a democracy? Clearly connect to one theoretical approach we studied.
How does this oral history inform your approach as a future educator & member of this democracy?
