This essay can not have references and it has to have one genre (one written form of communication) and reveal how it is used in three different communities.  So, it needs a genre and then finds three communities that use the genre in similar and different ways.

Genre: letter writing                The three different communities: Elderly, Inmates, and Amish

Similar because they don’t have access to technology.
Difference because of their age, religious beliefs, and imprisonment
